Do You Really Have Ownership?

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!

A million dollar question that I heard a while back was:

How could you own something in a temporary world” ?

We have been programmed and conditioned to think that we can actually OWN something in this world; I am here to say that we can not own anything in a temporary world. In addition, how is it that when you “own” something in this world; you still pay like you don’t own it? That doesn’t make sense; if I own something then why am I constantly paying for my ownership.

According to Business Dictionary,

Ownership is ” The ultimate and exclusive right conferred by a lawful claim or title, and subject to certain restrictions to enjoy, occupy, possess, rent, sell, use, give away, or even destroy an item of property. Ownership may be corporeal (title to a tangible object such as a house) or incorporeal (title to an intangible object, such as a copyright, or a right to recover debt)”

We have been brainwashed to chase ownership which is just making us chase materials. Chasing materials is just GREED because you are not satisfied with what you have; you always want more and more.

Not knowing when we run after ownership; we will eventually fall into SIN. The sins that you will run into is Pride, Envy, Greed and Lust. You may be thinking how is that; so I will explain.

  1. GREED: chasing ownership will lead you into Greed because you will always want more and more. You will want more of the so called ownership. (intense and selfish desire for something)

  2. PRIDE: you will have pride in all your possessions (a feeling or deep pleasure or satisfaction derived from one’s own achievements, the achievements of those with whom one is closely associated, or from qualities or possessions that are widely admired.)

  3. ENVY: you will envy those who have the things you have; which is abomination to the 10 commandments. Especially since God told us not to covet (wanting what others have)

  4. LUST: you will have a taste for more possessions; lusting after the next material

So with all these being said, do you really own anything? If you are only here for a short period of time; how can you really have ownership? You might be able to pass some things down but you really don’t own them. Furthermore, even by passing them down to the next person; they will just have fake ownership because they will do what you have done with your ownership.

In some places in the world, you are restricted to what you can do with your ownership. Like how is it that I have ownership but I am restricted with laws and regulations to what I can do with my ownership.

We need to stop focusing on materials; God tells us Matthew 6:19/20 ” Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

In addition, ownership is really just tied to money. The more money you have, then the more ownership you can obtain. So you wanting more ownership will have you desiring more money (GREED) which will be an endless cycle. However, Ecclesiastes 5:10 says ” Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.”
